CHENNAI: In yet another incident involving vigilante justice, a group of students were allegedly manhandled for not standing up while the national anthem was being played at a theatre in Chennai. The incident took place at a movie theatre in Chennai's Vadapalani.

Police have detained four people for disrespecting the national anthem at cinema hall in Chennai. A group of students were allegedly manhandled as they refused to stand up when the national anthem was being played inside a movie theatre. The Supreme Court recently had asked all cinemas to play the national anthem before a film is screened.

On November 30, the Supreme Court directed that cinema halls across the country must play the national anthem before the screening of a film and people should stand up as a mark of respect. The court also directed that the national flag be shown on screen when the anthem is played.

This is the second similar nature of incident reported in Chennai as earlier on December 11, 2016 seven people were allegedly involved in an altercation after they were refused to stand when the national anthem was being played before the screening of a movie.
