Vijayawada: The victory blaze of golden victory rain was brought by INS Sumitra from Port Blair to Visakhapatnam on behalf of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) and arrived here on Wednesday and will be taken to Hyderabad on its next visit. And on December 16, 1971, the war ended with the signing of the 'Means of Surrender' by the Eastern Command of the Pakistani Army in Dhaka. It was a resounding victory that resulted in the largest military surrender since World War II, in which approximately 93,000 soldiers of the Pakistani Army surrendered to the Indian Army, the governor said.

The 'Golden Victory Year' celebrations were started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 16 last year by lighting the 'Victory Jwala' from the eternal flame of the National War Memorial in Delhi, symbolizing the bravery of the soldiers of the war. Since then Vijay Jwala is roaming all over India. Kumar Vishwajeet, Principal Secretary, Home Department, Vijayawada Police Commissioner B Srinivasulu, Commodore M Govardhan Raju, Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam, Brigadier V Venkata Reddy, VSM (Retd) Director Sainik Welfare, RP Sisodia, Special Chief to the Governor Secretary, Indian Navy Captain VSC Rao, Krishna District Joint Collector L Shiv Shankar, several defense officers and NCC cadets participated in the ceremony.
