New Delhi: The fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya has approached the Supreme Court against the crackdown on private and family property. Mallya has filed a petition in the apex court seeking a stay on the process of action and confiscation of properties. Mallya said in the petition that only property belonging to Kingfisher company should be confiscated and his personal and family property cannot be processed.

The Supreme Court will hear Vijay Mallya's plea on Monday, July 29. In fact, Mallya had earlier suffered a major setback from the Bombay High Court. The High Court had dismissed the appeal seeking a stay on taking action against him and his property. Mallya had said in his petition that the lower courts and government investigating agencies could confiscate and sell his property. This should be stopped.

Vijay Mallya wanted the trial court and government investigating agencies not to take any forfeiture action against him until the Bombay High Court completes the hearing on a petition challenging him's fugitive economic offender (FEO). It has challenged the High Court's decision to declare itself an economic fugitive offender.
