In Bikur village of Kanpur, 8 policemen were martyred and 6 policemen were also injured in an encounter with miscreants a few days ago. Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the incident, was absconded since then, though he too has been arrested now. According to the information received, Vikas has been arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, he was seen in Faridabad, where he stayed at his relative's place. However, he fled before the police arrived.
The most wanted Vikas Dubey of Kanpur shootout has been arrested from the famous Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain. He cut the slip of Mahakal temple and then he surrendered himself. He was then arrested by the local police. It has also been reported that Vikas had given the news of his surrender to the media himself and then surrendered before the local police near Mahakal police station.
Vikas Dubey has currently been taken to the Ujjain police station, where he is being questioned. The STF team has also left for Ujjain as soon as Vikas Dubey surrenders. Police of 5 states including Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were on high alert regarding him. Due to the delay in catching development, the prize money placed on it was also increased. Gradually the prize money placed on it was reduced to Rs 5 lakh.
