Ahmedabad: The Dalit community of a village is facing a boycott after a groom from the community rode a horse and took out a procession as part of his marriage celebration. The case is reported from Gujarat's Mehsana village.

The groom was identified as 24-year-old Mehul Parmar after his wedding procession the family was boycotted from the village. The upper caste members of the village were irked with the marriage procession of Parmar, who rode a horse on May 7. Parmar works in a private company in Ahmedabad.

As per the report of Times of India (TOI), the deputy superintendent of police Manjita Vanzara said that five accused in the case have been arrested including village sarpanch Vinuji Thakor and deputy sarpanch Baldeo Thakor under the act. Vanzara reached the village after receiving a call from the Dalit members on Thursday. 

 

As per report,  after the marriage celebration, senior members of the village prominently and publicly announced a social boycott of the family from the village. The sarpanch has been accused of saying that the Dalits had no right to ride a horse and by riding one they have broken the village's tradition.
