Virat Kohli is now the third highest run scorer in international cricket across all formats, surpassing former Australian cricketer legend Ricky Ponting. He is only behind Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Lankan great Kumar Sangkara. Yet again proving, why he is the G.O.A.T of the game, the run machine and King of chase.

Virat Kohli is now placed a little ahead than before, closer to the legends of the game. He has a total of 27,503 runs in a play of 614 innings at an average of 52.38, which includes 82 centuries and 142 half-centuries in all the formats of the game. Sachin Tendulkar has a count of 34,353 runs in 782 innings, while Kumar Sangkara has 28,016 runs in 666 innings. Virat is 513 runs behind Sangkara to hold on to the second spot very soon. Ricky Ponting is now shifted to fourth spot, with 27,483 runs in 668 innings, followed by Mahela Jayawardene at fifth with 25,957 runs in 725 innings.

Sharing his feat, International Cricket Council (ICC) took to X, captioning it, “Virat Kohli keeps adding to his greatness.”

Virat Kohli also becomes the fastest batter in the world to reach landmark 14,000 ODI runs in 287 innings. He achieved the milestone in the Champions Trophy match against Pakistan in Dubai. When he began with his innings, Kohli was 15 runs short to 14,000 runs. He scored his 51st ODI century in the format, and stood unbeaten while chasing down the target of 241 runs for the team.

If we talk about the feat of 14,000 runs only three batters have reached to this milestone. Sachin Tendulkar took 350 innings to score 14,000 runs while Kumar Sangkara achieved the score in 378 innings. Virat Kohli did it fastest, taking 63 fewer innings to hit 14,000 runs. Also, his current average is 57 across the format, Tendulkar’s was 44.19 and Sangkara had it 47.13 during the early 40s. Notably, Virat is ahead in terms of ball faced as well, taking only 14,984 balls.

Ever since he went past 8000 runs, Virat is the fastest to achieve these 1,000 run milestones. In the ODIs, Virat is set to overtake Sangkara soon who is at second place with 14,234 runs. The first spot is of course, with the legend Sachin Tendulkar with 18,426 runs. Not to forget, Kohli is currently the record holder for most hundreds in ODIs, his 51st that came yesterday. He surpassed his idol Tendulkar’s 49 in the 2023 World Cup.

With the last match against Pakistan, Kohli also took another record to his name. He took most catches as a fielder for India in the ODIs, the tally at 158 now.

These feats in recent times reflect upon the class of Virat Kohli, proving every time to his critics that he is not done yet. The Run Machine is really adding to his greatness, until the curtains fall down
He is there every time for the team, making the chase so comfortable and achievable. Impossible doesn’t exists for the ones who put their head down and toil hard. Virat Run Machine Kohli lives to it
