New Delhi: Virender Sehwag extended his congratulations to David Warner in his characteristic style following the Australian batsman's retirement from Test cricket. Warner bid farewell to the format with a stellar half-century in the third Test against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
In the second innings on Day 4, Warner scored 57 runs off 75 balls, including seven fours, as Australia successfully chased down a target of 130 in 25.5 overs.
Sehwag, Warner's former teammate at the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL), praised Warner for his entertaining cricket career and wished him success in his future endeavors.
“Congratulations @davidwarner31 on a wonderful Test career. Since the time I saw you, knew this is the format you will excel most in and what a ride it has been. Full on entertainment on the pitch and now hopefully more in reels and T20 cricket. Best wishes for the next phase,” Sehwag wrote.
Warner's retirement saw him receive a warm send-off from the SCG crowd after his final appearance. Despite missing a half-century in the first innings, Warner concluded the series against Pakistan with an impressive performance, accumulating 299 runs in three matches at an average of 49.83 and a strike rate of 65.28, featuring one century and one half-century. The left-handed batsman finishes his Test career with 8,786 runs from 112 matches at an average of 44.59 and a strike rate of 70.19, with 26 centuries and 37 half-centuries.
