NEW DELHI: President Ram Nath Kovind has sworn Virendra Kumar as the protem speaker of the Lok Sabha on Monday. Kumar will be sworn-in as the newly elected MAs on Monday and Tuesday. After the appointment of the new Lok Sabha speaker on Wednesday, his role will be completed.

Kumar has won the Lok Sabha elections from Tikamgarh seat in Madhya Pradesh on the BJP ticket. He was the Minister of State in the former Modi government. As protem speaker, Kumar will lead the first meeting of the Lok Sabha session and administer the oath to the newly elected MPs. The Lok Sabha Speaker will also be selected under his supervision. The first session of the newly constituted Lok Sabha will run from 17th June to 26th July.

The Budget Session of the Lok Sabha will begin today and the General Budget will be presented on the 5th of July. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha speaker is scheduled to be elected on 19th of this month. The General Budget will be passed in this session of Parliament and other important bills like triple talaq will be key on the government's agenda. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also held an all-party meeting on Sunday before the start of the session.
