Virgin Atlantic will stop flying to Pakistan

USA: Later this year, Virgin Atlantic will stop operating flights between London and Pakistan.

The action comes after the airline recently suspended routes from Manchester airport to Islamabad, and it affects services from Heathrow airport to the cities of Islamabad and Lahore.

The following are the actual flight dates:

  • LHR-LHE VS364 departs April 30, 2023 at 2155
  • LHE-LHR VS365 departs May 1, 2023 at 1225
  • LHR-ISB VS378 departs July 8, 2023 at 2155
  • ISB-LHR VS379 departs July 9, 2023 at 1240

Customers scheduled to depart after these dates will be contacted by the airline and given the choice of a full refund or the opportunity to rebook "where applicable."

According to a Virgin Atlantic spokesperson:

"As we step up our flying program in 2023, we've taken the chance to review our entire network and made a few changes," the statement reads.

In December 2020, the airline began operating flights from Heathrow to Islamabad, Lahore, and Manchester.

As one of the first industries to recover from the pandemic, Virgin claims that the routes were introduced in order to "capture the visiting friends and relatives market."

The spokesperson for the airline added:

"We have been proud to provide choice for customers traveling between London and Manchester in the UK and Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan since we began operations in December 2020. In that time, we have also delivered critical medical supplies and offered significant cargo capacity.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused and would like to emphasize that this is not a decision we have made lightly. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone in Pakistan for their support over the past two years, including our clients, teams, partners, and the government.

Given its impending Skyteam membership, Virgin last week announced that it would resume daily flights to Shanghai as of May 1. This is a significant relaunch for the airline.
