New Delhi: Senior virologist Dr Shahid Jamil on Sunday resigned as chairman of the Scientific Advisory Group of the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG). Shahid Jamil was a member of the special advisory group formed by the central government that was responsible for identifying the genome structure of the virus.

In the midst of the crisis of the corona epidemic, Dr. Shahid Jamil was given up on important responsibility by the government. He was appointed as a chief of the Scientific Advisory Group identifying the genome structure of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. But on Sunday he resigned from the post. However, it is not clear why Jamil resigned as the forum's chief advisor. Recently, Shahid Jamil, director of the Trivedi School of Bioscience at Ashoka University, wrote an article in the New York Times. In which he said that scientists in India are battling a "stubborn response to evidence-based policy making".

He had also advised the Modi government in the article to listen to scientists. Give up stubborn attitude in policy making. Jamil pointed to corona's new variant and wrote that as a virologist, I have been monitoring corona and vaccination since last year. I believe that many variants of corona are spreading and these variants can only be responsible for the third wave of corona.
