Visakhapatnam: A gas leak has been reported in a company in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The gas is said to have suddenly leaked in a plant HPCL. The gas leak was happening at Crude Oil Distillation Unit (CDU) 2. The people present were alerted when they received a report of gas leakage and immediately sounded the siren.

Kalidas, PRO of the same HPCL, reported the case and said that after playing the siren, the technical team reached the spot and brought the situation under control. No damage has been reported in the incident. It is said that several workers were present at the time of the gas leakage at the plant and there was an uproar when the gas leak was received. However, the technical team reached the spot and controlled the situation and a major accident was averted.

Similarly, a major fire broke out at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited in Visakhapatnam some time ago. The fire broke out at a crude oil refinery in the old terminal building of HPCL. It is feared that one of the crude oil tanks exploded, causing the fire to erupt. Earlier also, gas leakage was reported in Visakhapatnam in which 11 persons including a minor died and more than 70 persons fainted.
