Vishal Bhardwaj debuted as a composer in the film 'Abhay' in 1995. He got recognition from Gulzar's film 'Maachis', in which he had composed music. In 2002, Vishal Bhardwaj stepped into the field of direction with the children's film 'Makdee'. He also composed the music for this film himself. 'Satya' was released in the year 1998 and Gulzar's film 'Hu Tu Tu' in 1999 was composed by Vishal. In 1999, he was awarded the National Award for Best Composer for the film 'Godmother'.
