Mumbai: Actor Vivek Oberoi has slammed Makkal Needhi Maiam (MKM) president Kamal Haasan for saying that independent India's first terrorist was a 'Hindu'. The actor, who is playing the lead role in PM Narendra Modi's biopic, asked the MKM president if his remark on the Hindu community was 'because he was speaking in a Muslim dominated area'.

"Dear Kamal sir, you are a great artist. Just like art has no religion, terror has no religion either! You can say Ghodse was a terrorist, why would you specify ‘Hindu’? Is it because you were in a Muslim dominated area looking for votes?" Vivek Oberoi said in a tweet tagging Times Now.

On Sunday, while addressing a rally in Aravakurichi in Tamil Nadu, the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder said that Nathuram Godse was independent India's first terrorist.

“I'm not saying this because this is a Muslim dominated area. I'm telling this because it’s in front of the Gandhi statue. Independent India's first terrorist was a Hindu. His name was Nathuram Godse. It starts from there. I'm Gandhi's great-grandson. I'm here to seek justice for that murder," he said.

"I'll thump my heart and say that I'm a good Indian and any Good Indian will want the country to be peaceful and equal to all. He will always want the tricolors of the national flag to remain the same always," he further said.

Aravakurichi goes for by-poll on May 19, the seventh and the last phase of Lok Sabha elections 2019. In the meantime, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) state unit has demanded that Haasan be arrested for his remarks.
