In some of the reports that have surfaced, it has been learned that VLC Media Player has been blocked in India. The reason becoming that this platform was used by the China-backed hacking group Cicada for cyber attacks. A few months back, security experts found out that Cicada was using VLC Media Player to deploy a malicious malware loader as part of a long-running cyberattack campaign.

On the other hand, neither the company nor the Indian government has officially announced a ban on the media platform in this regard. Even though, some users on Twitter are still exploring the restrictions of the platform. Recently a Twitter user tweeted a screenshot of the VLC website, which shows that the website has been blocked as per the order of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the IT Act, 2000.

Let us also inform you that at present, the VLC Media Player website and download links are blocked in the country. Indicating that no one in the country can access this platform for any work. In this case, it is said that VLC Media Player is blocked on all major ISPs including ACT Fibernet, Jio, Vodafone-Idea and others. In the year 2020, the Indian government blocked hundreds of Chinese apps, including PUBG Mobile, TikTok, Camscanner and more.
