Vodafone-Idea to handle business by paying AGR in few days

Private telecom company Vodafone-Idea said on Saturday that it could pay the outstanding adjusted gross revenue (AGR) to the government in the next few days. The company informed the stock markets on Saturday that it is currently assessing how much the government owes to it. It can pay the outstanding amount in the next few days. Vodafone-Idea issued a statement saying, "We want to inform that after yesterday's hearing, the company received letters related to immediate payment from the Department of Telecommunications." The company did not say where that money they will gather.

Bharti Airtel had written a letter to the Department of Telecommunications on Friday that the company could pay the outstanding AGR of Rs 10,000 crore by February 20. It had said that it would pay the balance amount by 17 March. It has sought time to complete the process of calculating arrears in 22 circles. The Supreme Court had on Friday reprimanded the telecom companies and the Department of Telecommunications for the outstanding AGR.

The telecom companies were warned of contempt action for not complying with its decision to pay AGR. The decision of the court is dependent on the decision to do business. Vodafone-Idea has said to continue business in India that it depends on the affirmative decision on the petition filed in the apex court regarding the amendment in the judgment. Vodafone-Idea owes more than Rs 50 thousand crores.
