Berlin: Germany's Volkswagen has announced an increase in the prices of its Tigun, Virtus and Tiguan models in India from April. The prices of all cars will increase by about 2%.

Depending on the variant, the exact length of the hike will change. All vehicles will now be available with engines that meet the upcoming RDE standards and can run on the E20 fuel mix.

In recent years, Volkswagen has experienced steady growth thanks to its India 2.0 strategy. The carmaker has seen significant improvements in the ride and handling characteristics of its Taigun and Virtus models since the introduction of its highly regarded MQB-IN platform.

But the upcoming price hike could damage how popular its capable products are here in the United States.

From April onwards, the Volkswagen Virtus is expected to be priced up to Rs. 35,000 more. It gets sloping roofline, alloy 16-inch wheels, chrome-lined grille and all-LED lighting.

Ventilated seats, dual-tone dashboard, 10.0-inch infotainment panel and six airbags add to the roomy five-seater interiors. It is supported by a 1.5-litre TSI EVO motor (148 hp / 250 Nm) and a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine (114 hp / 178 Nm).

Increase in prices by up to Rs. 37,000 is expected for the Volkswagen Taigun in India.

With projector LED headlights, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a full-width LED taillight, it has the typical SUV silhouette. Interiors of the five-seat cabin include a 10.0-inch infotainment panel, an electric sunroof and six airbags.

There's a 1.5-liter TSI EVO mill with 148 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, and a 1.0-liter TSI engine with 114 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque.

Two trim levels are available for the premium Volkswagen Tiguan. The SUV gets wrap-around LED taillamps, 18-inch alloy wheels and matrix LED headlamps with L-shaped DRLs.

The lavish five-seat cabin gets a panoramic sunroof, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three climate controls and six airbags. It has an all-wheel-drive system called 4Motion and a 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine that produces 187 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.

You can buy the Volkswagen Taigun in India for a price ranging from Rs. 11.56 Lakh to Rs. 18.96 lakhs. The Tiguan is available for Rs. 33.5 lakh for both the variants, while the Virtus is priced between Rs. 11.32 lakh and Rs. 18.42 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
