Lucknow: A by-election will also be held on December 5 in the Khatauli assembly seat in the Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh, which fell vacant after the resignation of BJP MLA Vikram Saini. Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and the Rampur assembly seat fell vacant after Azam Khan was convicted in a hate speech case. The Election Commission has already announced the election schedule for Mainpuri and Rampur. The notification was also issued on Monday considering Khatauli's seat vacant from October 11. Now the dates from nomination to voting and counting have been announced.  

According to the schedule announced, the counting of votes for the Khatauli by-election will also be held on October 8. In the 18th Assembly, the membership of two MLAs has now ended. Principal Secretary of the Assembly Pradeep Dubey decided to declare the Khatauli seat vacant after getting legal opinion and issued a notification on Monday. It has been said that the MPMLA court has sentenced Vikram Saini to two years in jail and a fine of Rs 5000. Therefore, as per the information given by the Election Commission's letter, In the light of the apex court's decision, Vikram Saini will be disqualified with effect from October 11, 2022, and his seat has been declared vacant.

Vikram Saini has been sentenced to two years in jail in the Muzaffarnagar riots case. Earlier, Azam Khan's membership from the Rampur seat has also been cancelled. A by-election is now going to be held in this seat. Notification for a by-election in Rampur has been issued. Rampur will also go to the polls on December 5.
