VP releases commemorative postage stamp honouring late PM I K Gujral

Vice president of India M Venkaiah Naidu paid rich tributes to the late Prime Minister, I K Gujral released a postage stamp through virtual mode in his honor. VP described the former PM as a multifaceted personality said he will be always remembered for the ‘Gujral Doctrine’ enunciated by him during his tenure as India’s External Affairs Minister. 

Late PM I K Gujral held various important portfolios in the union government including Works &Housing, Communications & Parliamentary Affairs, Information & Broadcasting , Planning during Ms Gandhis’s tenure as prime minister. He was appointed as India’s Ambassador to U.S.S.R and played a crucial role in further cementing Indo-Soviet at that juncture. He also served as the External Affairs Minister in the Cabinets of Shri V P Singh and Shri Deve Gowda. He also served as the leader of the Rajya Sabha from 1996- 1998. In 1997, he assumed office as the 12th Prime Minister of India. He demitted office in 1998.

VP also wanted that present generations to be made aware of the life and contributions of great leaders like former PM late Inder Kumar Gujral. Naresh Gujral, Member of Parliament, Tarlochan Singh, former MP, B.Selvakumar, Chief Post Master General-Tamil Nadu Circle, and Sumathi Ravichandran, Post Master General, Chennai City Region were among those who had participated in the virtual event.
