New Delhi: Scientists have reached the bottom of how giant dinosaurs, which ruled the earth millions of years ago, went extinct. Asteroid dust found in a crater in the Gulf of Mexico recently revealed that this massive planetary rock had destroyed dinosaurs and 75 percent of its life on Earth over 66 million years ago.

Steven Goderis, a professor of geochemistry at the University of Brussels, Brussels, says that researching crater dust has revealed that dinosaurs were killed millions of years ago when a city-sized asteroid collided with the earth. According to researchers, all the speculation about the elimination of dinosaurs has ended with the discovery of this dust. Professor Steven Goderis, who was involved in this study, said, 'The cycle is now finally over. Earlier in 2016, an international team started collecting samples in a 150-kilometer pit.'

After assessing the samples of the rocks, researchers found that there is a large amount of iridium within them, which is quite rare to find on Earth, but some are found inside the asteroids. This level of iridium is 30 times higher than normal. Higher levels of iridium caused damage to the organism. It was tested in the labs of Austria, Belgium, Japan, USA, on the basis of which scientists came to conclusions.
