NEW DELHI: The ED and CBI have sought a week's time from the court to respond to the bail plea of Christian Mitchell, accused in the VVIP helicopter scam. The scam was worth Rs 3600 crore in which British citizen Christian Mitchell was in the role of a middleman. Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar on Monday said that a copy of the Italian court's verdict has been attached to the bail petition.

Hence, time is needed for its translation. The court posted the matter for further hearing on 28th of this month. The court gave time to the investigating agencies and fixed the next date. Mitchell has said in a bail plea that he has been in custody for nearly nine months. The investigation against him has been completed and there is no justification for keeping him in custody. The Italian court has acquitted him and hence he should be released on bail.

Michel was extradited from Dubai on December 4, 2018, and arrested by the CBI on December 5. After the CBI interrogation, ED arrested him on December 22 and questioned him. The court had remanded Michelle to judicial custody after the interrogation was over. His bail plea has once been dismissed from the lower court. The case had caught a lot of trouble and created trouble for the then UPA Government.
