New Delhi: Team India has arrived with new captain Shikhar Dhawan on a tour of Sri Lanka. With regular Indian captain Virat Kohli on a tour of England, the Sri Lankan team has been captained by the opener. Talking about Dhawan, former Indian batsman VVS Laxman said that it is a shame to be excited to get the captaincy, but his real focus should be on scoring runs.

It may be recalled that Dhawan is now struggling to retain his place in Team India. The test-dropped Khabbu batsman will have to work hard to make it to the t20 World Cup squad. Dhawan is directly pitted against skipper Virat Kohli and second opener KL Rahul. Talking to Star Sports, VVS said that if Dhawan wants to play in the T20 World Cup, then the tour of Sri Lanka is going to be very important for him.

Laxman further said, "The first thing I think Shikhar Dhawan has been rewarded for his consistently good performance in the Indian team. He is also the most experienced player, especially in limited over format cricket and in this team. Now Shikhar Dhawan has to be very clear that he has to take full advantage of this chance, especially in view of the T20 World Cup because there is a lot of competition at the moment".
