Madhya Pradesh government conferred Waheeda Rehman with 'Kishore Kumar Award' in Mumbai

Film industry veteran Waheeda Rehman has been conferred the Kishore Kumar Samman 2018 on Tuesday. It is the prestigious award of Madhya Pradesh. Cultural Minister Dr. Vijayalakshmi Sadhau conferred Waheeda Rehman with this honor at her home in Mumbai. She also gave Waheeda Rehman a check of two lakh rupees.

Expressing gratitude for this honor, Waheeda Rehman said, "I thank the Government of Madhya Pradesh for this honor. I love Madhya Pradesh because of its unique wildlife and greenery." Significantly, she was to be conferred with this honor on the death anniversary of singer Kishore Kumar on October 13 last year, however, this could not happen due to health reasons.

It is noteworthy that this award was started from the year 1997. The first time this award was received by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. After this, artists like Naseeruddin Shah, Gulzar, Dilip Kumar, and Priyadarshan have also been awarded. Waheeda's first debut film was CID, directed by Gurudutt. She is known for films like 'Saheb Bibi Aur Ghulam', 'Baaghi' and 'Guide'. She has also been a part of Telugu, Hindi, Tamil and Bengali films cinema for seven. She has been awarded the Padma Shri, National Awards and Filmfare Awards for her contribution to the cine world.
