A warm tale about love by Anu Menon, Waiting is a film about loss, grief and the human need to cling on to the physical presence of loved ones. The plot goes something like this : Shiv (Naseeruddin Shah), lives in the city of Kochi with his wife Pankaja (Suhasini Maniratnam).

The old couple spend their retired life enjoying each other’s company when his wife suffers from a massive stoke and goes into coma. Tara (Kalki Koechlin), a free spirited girl with a modern approach to life and an atheist, elopes with her boyfriend Rajat (Arjun Mathur) and marries him in a secret ceremony.

On his way to an office trip, Rajat has a major accident. It is at the waiting room of the hospital, that Tara meets Shiv and thus beginning their emotional journey to self discovery.

Waiting hinges on the unlikely bond that develops between both of them and are compelled to view existence in a new light. The duo seeks solace in each other's company even as they get into violent arguments over the fate of their respective spouses.

Naseeruddin Shah seems effortless and characteristically effective. He moves from sorrow to hope and from anger to cheerfulness with minimum visible effort. Kalki Koechlin, in the garb of a far more temperamental figure, provides the ideal foil, adding immensely to the emotional depth of the tale and heightening the conflict between two unlike poles.

Menon captures deep philosophies of life in extremely subtle moments. “Waiting” is a good attempt that explores the mindset of two people whose lives are altered forever. If you are looking for a movie that is beautiful and believable with powerful performances and realistic approach, 'Waiting' is definitely a good pick this weekend..!!
