New Delhi: Fifty Years Of Bangladesh Liberation And Indo-Pakistan War Of 1971:- Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president, said on Wednesday that the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War was an example of brilliantly executed political, diplomatic, and military strategy that holds a unique place in the history of the subcontinent and transformed geography under Indira Gandhi's leadership.
Sonia Gandhi made these remarks while giving the keynote presentation at a Congress-sponsored event marking the 50th anniversary of India's triumph over Pakistan in the 1971 war and the liberation of Bangladesh.
"It will not be an exaggeration to say that 1971 was, in many ways, Indira Gandhi's finest year - starting with the tremendous mandate she won in March," the Congress president remarked, recalling the former Prime Minister's courage and resilience.
When the brutal crackdown in Dhaka began, Indira Gandhi understood the implications, according to the Congress president, and swung into action by reaching out to all political parties and public figures, writing to Presidents and Prime Ministers, dispatching emissaries abroad, and enlisting the support of the Soviet Union.
