Billy Porter has signed on to direct the HBO Max and Warner Bros. film version of Camp. Oscar winner Dan Jinks is producing through The Dan Jinks Company, while Robert O'Hara is rewriting Kit Williamson's script, which is based on Lev Rosen's YA novel.

According to media, the film revolves around 16-year-old Randy Kapplehoff, who enjoys spending his summers at Camp Outland, an LGBT adolescent camp. It was there that he made his closest pals. It's here that he performs in the major musical. And it's then that he met Hudson Aaronson-Lim, who is solely interested in straight-acting men and has no idea that Randy is anything but straight. Over the summer, Randy transforms into Del, a buff, manly, and on-the-market camper. He's determined to win Hudson's heart, even if it means giving up show tunes, nail gloss, and his unicorn bedsheets. Randy must examine himself how much he is willing to alter for love as he and Hudson become closer. Is it really love if Hudson has no idea who he is?

Porter, on the other hand, will not only direct but also play Mark, the camp's theatrical director.  According to Deadline, "Billy Porter, who I've had the pleasure of knowing for more than 20 years, is the right filmmaker for this narrative, which is both brilliantly amusing and extremely emotional." "I wish there had been a film like this when I was a kid." I'm overjoyed that we'll be able to do it now.”

However, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in the United States and Penguin Random House Children's in the United Kingdom published the book last year. It was picked as the YA option for Pride Month by Barnes & Noble. Cate Adams and Diamond McNeil of Warner Bros. are in charge of the project.
