Controversies never leave the hands of prominent personalities. In order to hit the Harish Rawat Government as the elections are going on and assembly poll results will be out soon on March 11, RTI reply sought by an activist who is a BJP member has pointed out a fund of Rs. 47.19 lakh being paid to the Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli, in June 2015 from those funds which were to be given to the victims of the deadly 2013 Kedarnath floods.

The captain is said to be compensated for appearing in a minute-long video to cover the tourism part of Uttarakhand. He was at that time recruited as the brand ambassador for the Indian state of Uttarakhand.

Bunty Sajdeh who is the founder and CEO of Cornerstone Sport and Entertainment as well as Virat Kohli's agent, commented: "There has been no monetary transaction whatsoever."

Surendra Kumar, a media advisor, reacted, "Tourism forms the backbone of the state's economy, therefore what is wrong if a prominent face is chosen to promote the state's destinations? Everything has been done in a legal way. These allegations are baseless. People know that redevelopment of Kedarnath has always been the priority of our government. BJP is on the verge of losing elections, so it is coming up with such diversionary tactics out of frustration."
