London: Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has been dropped from the India-England Test series. He has been injured while playing for County Select XI during India's first-class practice match. Washington suffered a fracture in his finger off Mohammad Siraj's ball on the second day of the encounter. Washington Sundar is the third player to be injured after Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan on this tour.

Young pacer Avesh Khan has also been ruled out of the series with an injury in the practice match in Durham. He suffered a left thumb injury while playing for the County XI. A senior BCCI official said, 'Yes, Washi's finger also has a passionate fracture. The thumb bone of the charge has slipped from its position. Both have been dropped from the Test series and will return home.' The source said, 'It will take them five weeks to bowl again and it will be of no use for them to stay here. The severity of the injury on Washington's fingers on Siraj's short ball was revealed when he returned to the pavilion and his pain became unbearable.'

Washington or Avesh was not among the regular members of the team before, but as net bowlers, he was an integral part of it. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder, who made his Test debut on the tour of Australia, could have been part of the team at some point in time on the tour due to his superior batting ability.
