Miley Cyrus and Metallica played "Nothing Else Matters" live on "The Howard Stern Show" to celebrate the band's eponymous album, popularly known as "The Black Album," which was released 30 years ago.

On Sept. 10, a remastered edition of “The Black Album” was released, as well as “The Metallica Blacklist,” a cover album featuring more than 50 musicians, including Miley Cyrus, IDLES, Moses Sumney, and Chris Stapleton, among others.

Cyrus performed “Nothing Else Matters,” a slower track from the album that she has been singing at her live concerts for years, for “The Metallica Blacklist.” Cyrus and the band met down with Stern for an interview before performing the song with Metallica on "The Howard Stern Show." In the interview, Metallica's James Hetfield discussed the song's emotional tone, adding that he was originally reluctant to show the song to the rest of the band since it was so different from the rest of their work.

Cyrus compared the song to a performance she gave at Glastonbury Festival in 2019 while dealing with her divorce from Liam Hemsworth and recovering from the Malibu fires. “It was right before, actually, that the world knew that I was getting a divorce but I knew that I was about two weeks before Glastonbury,” Cyrus said. “And I had just lost my house in the fires, and this was my first show back. And ‘Nothing Else Matters,’ to me, was about the music.”
