During the journey from 2022, railway passengers can enjoy entertainment services like cinema, shows, educational programs, videos uninterrupted. Apart from this, RailTel, a railway PSU, is being told on Tuesday that it can be available in both paid and unpaid forms. The same government telecom company has chosen Zee Entertainment's subsidiary Margo Network as a digital entertainment service provider (DESP). Margo networks can provide on-demand content (COD) in trains and stations.
Apart from this, RailTel has said, "COD can be available in all premium, express, mail trains and suburban trains of Indian Railways in the next two years. Besides this, content like cinema, shows, educational programs are paid on contract for 10 years and Unpaid will be provided in both forms. It will take two years to implement. In this project, RailTel can provide various pre-loaded multi-lingual content (cinema, music, video, general entertainment, lifestyle) through media service installed in moving trains.
In addition, passengers with COD can enjoy free and subscription based entertainment service seamlessly during their journey despite the unstable mobile network. With this, the entire service will be ready within 2022 itself. The COD service will not only improve the travel experience but will also increase non-fare revenue. RailTel CMD Puneet Chawla said that all 17 zones of Indian Railways will be included in the scope of this service. The project will mainly generate revenue from three areas such as advertising-based monetization, fee-based monetization and e-commerce or partnership services.
