Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences on the fatal accident that took place in the state's Birbhum on Tuesday.

Taking to Twitter, the CM said, that she was "deeply saddened" by the fatal accident in Birbhum which took away 9 lives. "My heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones".

"We will provide the next kin of the deceased Rs 2 lakh.  Rs 2,000 will also be provided to perform the last rites of each deceased, under the Somyabothi scheme.

Collision between an autorickshaw and a bus near the Mallarpur police station in the Birbhum district  on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of nine persons. 

Prior to that, President Droupadi Murmu also expressed her sorrow over the incident, which claimed nine lives. "I was "deeply distressed to know that a road accident at Birbhum, West Bengal, claimed many lives, including of some women returning from work in fields. Condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," President tweeted.

The deceased's family members will receive an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each, as per the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Further, PM Modi made announcements of Rs 50,000 for the injured and Rs 2 lakh for each deceased person's next of kin.
