PM Modi had not met the ministers of any country, including the UK, China, Austria, Greece and Mexico, who visited India in the last two weeks. In such a situation, this meeting of PM Modi with the Russian Foreign Minister is considered to be very important. Sergei Lavrov further said that India and Russia have been strengthening the strategic partnership and this has been our priority. We are certainly interested in balancing the world order. We have further strengthened our bilateral context.

Lavrov said he wanted to convey a "personal message" to PM Modi on behalf of President Vladimir Putin. "President Putin and PM Modi are in regular touch with each other and I will report to the President regarding my conversation. The way he gives his best respect to PM Modi and I personally appreciate the opportunity to convey this message.'' On the possibility of India becoming a mediator between Russia and Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Minister said that India is an important country. If India wants to play this role, which provides a solution to the problem, if India is with a just and rational approach to global problems, we can support such a process.

Responding to a question on India's offer of oil supplies, Rupee-Ruble payments and sanctions, Lavrov said, "If India wants to buy anything from us, we are ready to discuss and reach a consensus until mutual cooperation." We will be ready to supply India with any goods it wants to buy from us. We are ready for discussion. Russia and India have very good relations. To a question on how India can be supported in terms of security challenges, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov responded by saying, "Our dialogue is the hallmark of the relationship that we have developed with India for decades. The relationship is a strategic partnership, it is the foundation on which we are promoting our cooperation in all areas. I believe that the speciality of Indian foreign policies is to focus on freedom and genuine national legitimate interests. This is the policy that works in the Russian Federation and it makes us big countries, good friends and loyal partners.''

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, when asked whether the US pressure on India would affect India-Russia relations, said: "I have no doubt that any pressure will not affect our partnership. America is forcing others to follow their own politics.''
