New Delhi: The apex court headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud is going to complete three months. CJI Chandrachud said that in these three months, the Supreme Court disposed of 12,471 cases while only 12,108 cases were filed. This shows that in the last 3 months, we cleared more cases than registered them. In fact, the CJI was speaking at a lecture organized on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court.
The CJI once again reacted to the remarks made by Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju regarding the work of the apex court. He said that no work is small or big for the Court, every case is important, because, it is in small and routine cases related to citizens' grievances that issues of constitutional and jurisprudential importance emerge. Notably, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju had said that the Supreme Court should not hear bail petitions and frivolous PILs.
Let us inform you that, CJI Chandrachud was speaking at the first annual lecture organized to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court. The event was attended by Chief Justice of Singapore Supreme Court Sundaresh Menon on 'Role of Judiciary in a Changing World'. Chandrachud has said that 'the workload of the Court during the early years was a fraction of what we see today. Workload has increased year by year. Now every day, the apex court takes up hundreds of cases. However, the judges and registry staff have done a tremendous job in ensuring the speedy disposal of cases.
