Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has spoken on the loudspeaker issue. "Everyone knows our opinion, we never interfere in any religion. The JDU chief said this over the demand for the removal of loudspeakers from religious places in all states of India, including Maharashtra, and the controversy over it. He said he does not support the opinion of BJP colleagues in his cabinet to remove loudspeakers from religious places (mosques). This demand is futile. They do not support such demands in Bihar. He, without naming his cabinet colleagues, said that whoever has to say what he has to say.''
Nitish Kumar said this to the media on Friday after the Iftar party at the residence of former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi. Earlier, mines minister Janak Ram in his cabinet reiterated his demand for the removal of loudspeakers from mosques. Even before Janak Ram, many BJP leaders, including ministers and MLAs, have supported the demand for the removal of loudspeakers. However, senior BJP leader and industries minister in the Nitish cabinet, Shahnawaz Hussain, said there is no need to link loudspeakers to any religion. Even before it was invented, people used to worship and perform Azaan.
Nitish Kumar's statement may anger the BJP, but people from the minority community will heave a sigh of relief. The Bihar Chief Minister has attended several feasts, including Rabri Devi's Iftar party, in the ongoing month of Ramzan. At the same time, deputy CM and BJP leader Tarkishore Prasad did not wear both scarf and cap at the Iftar party.
