New Delhi: Following his father footsteps Abdullah – son of SP leader Azam Khan took an apparent jibe against Jaya Prada, who is contesting Lok Sabha election 2019 on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket in Rampur. Abdullah has opened a new front by referring to the actress-turned-politician as 'Anarkali' who would be rejected by people in Rampur parliamentary constituency. Without naming Prada, who is contesting from Rampur on BJP ticket, junior Khan said the people of Rampur would not vote for ‘Anarkali’.

“Ali bhi humare, bajrangbali bhi humare. Humein Ali bhi chahiye, bajrangbali bhi chahiye lekin Anarkali nahi chahiye. (Rampur wants Ali as well as Bajrangbali but does not want Anarkali),” Azam Khan’s son said making a veiled attack on Jaya Prada’s Bollywood past and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

His comments come at a time when his father is already facing flak over his sexist jibes at his friend-turned-foe Prada. The bitter rivalry between the two has only worsened since Jaya Prada was named as the BJP candidate from Rampur parliamentary seat which votes on Tuesday.

A number of political leaders have made remarks on religious lines this election season with Abdullah too alleging that his father was temporarily banned from campaigning by the Election Commission because he is a Muslim. Last week, Azam faced a 72-hour election campaign ban for making derogatory remarks against Prada. Earlier when the Election Commission barred Azam Khan from poll campaigning for 72 hours, the SP leader’s son gave the panel’s decision a religious angle.
