Dr. Deepanshu Goyal, the lead author of the study, said that a compound called capsaicin found in chilli is beneficial for the heart. Capsaicin helps dilate blood vessels, which improves blood flow and lowers blood pressure.

Dr. Goyal said that capsaicin also has anti-inflammatory properties, which help in reducing the risk of heart diseases.

The study found that people who consumed more than 1.5 grams of capsaicin per day had a 21% lower risk of having a heart attack or dying from a stroke.

However, Dr. Goyal warns that eating too many hot peppers can cause stomach irritation and other digestive problems. He said that hot chillies should be consumed according to one's tolerance.
