Kochi: Orange alert has been issued for heavy rains in many districts of Kerala. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rains in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad. Due to the alert, all schools and colleges in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi have been closed today. Along with this, fishermen have been instructed not to go to sea.

According to the IMD bulletin, Perinthalamna in Malappuram district recorded 12 cm of rain, Kodungallur in Thrissur 9 cm and 7 cm rain in Aluva in Ernakulam. A warning of severe rains has been issued for Kerala and Lakshadweep in the next five days. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea, as wind speeds can reach the coast at speeds of 45-55 kmph. It may have more impact on the Kerala coast.

The effect of low air pressure in the Arabian Sea will continue. This pressure can change from north to east-north zone on October 24. According to the Meteorological Department, there are chances of rains in Andhra Pradesh, Yenam, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep. Heavy rain may occur in some areas. In Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa, there is a possibility of lightning in some areas, light rain may also occur.
