Gandhinagar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday has issued a red alert for heavy rains in Rajasthan, Saurashtra and Kutch regions. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall (more than 20 cm) in these areas. On Sunday too, heavy rains were recorded in parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan like Udaipur, Porbandar, Kandla etc. According to IMD's Monday morning bulletin, a low-pressure area is currently located in the central parts of South Rajasthan.

It is expected to move west over western Rajasthan during the next two days and then be less marked. However, the associated cyclonic circulation is expected to remain in the neighbourhood area of South Rajasthan for the next 2-3 days. The monsoon trough (low-pressure line) is active and is south of its normal state (Ganganagar to the Bay of Bengal) and is expected to remain active during the next 2-3 days.

Due to these favourable conditions, heavy rains are likely over Southwest Rajasthan and Gujarat on 24 August. Heavy rainfall is expected in East Rajasthan on 25 to 26 August and in Saurashtra and Kutch on 15 August in East Rajasthan.
