New Delhi: The monsoon has reached most parts of the country and there is good rainfall in many places and Delhi-NCR and North India are still reeling under the heat. While people are still awaiting relief, the good news for people living in the north, west, east and north-eastern parts of the country is that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the southwest monsoon will reach these areas in the next few days. All of you are told that Gujarat, Ahmedabad and adjoining areas are expecting monsoon rains during the next few hours and the progress of monsoon has been slow this year.

The monsoon reaches Gujarat by the second week of June and sometimes the monsoon hits the Kerala coast on 1st June, but this time it was delayed by about a week. Cyclone Vayu over the Arabian Sea in the second week of June has delayed the monsoon by a few days. The monsoon arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday and the Meteorological Department said that the monsoon usually arrives in Mumbai by June 10, which is 15 days late in the city. At the same time, the people of Delhi-NCR will have to wait for the monsoon, but before that, they may get some respite from the heat.
Delhi is likely to see cloudy skies with light rain on Wednesday and the maximum temperature is expected to be 39 degrees and the minimum temperature is 28 degrees. The monsoon is expected to arrive in the first week of July. In the northeastern state of Mizoram, people are facing acute shortage of drinking water due to delayed monsoon. According to news agency IANS, normal life in the northeastern region has been badly affected due to lack of rain and severe heat conditions and there have been reports of 40 percent less rainfall in seven northeastern states, except Sikkim, since June 1.
