New Delhi: The cold has started showing its true form since the beginning of January. Entire north India, including the national capital, Delhi, is experiencing severe cold wave conditions. Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan are shivering due to cold wave conditions. As per the forecast of IMD, the cold wave is not expected to provide relief till January 3.
According to IMD, the plains of northwest India may receive light to moderate rainfall on January 4-5. Meanwhile, snowfall accompanied by light rain in the western Himalayan region is likely to bring down the temperature drastically. According to weather forecasting agency Skymet, cyclonic winds continue to form in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal. On the other hand, a weak Western disturbance on Jammu and Kashmir means western disturbance. By 4th January, the western disturbance swells and approaches the western Himalayas.
The western disturbance means dense fog in parts of Punjab and UP and moderate fog in North Madhya Pradesh and North East India till 4th December under the influence of Western Disturbance. North India is expected to get a slight respite from the cold wave after January 3, though the minimum temperature is currently expected to hover around 0.4 degrees Celsius. The mountains may receive snowfall and light rain as the western disturbances strengthen. This will also bring down the mercury in the plains. The north Indian states, including Delhi-NCR, will once again get icy winds after 7th January. The severe cold wave conditions are yet to bring relief.
