Hyderabad: The weavers of Telangana have alleged on Tuesday that the state government has closed their eyes to their welfare and claimed that about 350 weavers have committed suicide so far. Weavers, under the banner of 'Weaver Sunited JAC', staged a fierce protest at Jantar Mantar here.

"Weavers in the state do not have insurance and held cards," said Dashu Suresh, head of Weaver Savar United JAC. If a weaver dies, his whole family is on the way and their children are helpless." He said, the government had announced a budget of Rs 273 crore for two years for the development of weavers of Telangana, but it has not spent even a quarter of it so far.

"The Telangana government is not looking after the weavers. Here, 350 weavers have committed suicide. The economic condition of weavers in Telangana is deteriorating due to which they are demanding the government to pay attention to them and promote their work, but the government is sitting on a silent spectator.
