Weekly market Review: Ukraine impacts Sensex, Nifty down for 4th straight week

Weekly Market Analysis: The domestic equity market fell for the fourth consecutive week as market mood was weighed down by growing fears over the Russia-Ukraine war, and rising crude oil prices.

On a weekly bais, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell 2.72 percent to 54,333.81 for the week ending March 4. Similarly, the Nifty index on the NSE fell 2.48 percent to 16,245.35 during the same time period.

The Nifty index ended the day with 31 stocks in the red. Maruti Suzuki India was the worst performer in the index, falling 13.27 percent. The company's stock concluded the week at Rs 7,247.30, down from Rs 8,356.10 on Friday, May 25, 2022. During the same time span, Asian Paints and Eicher Motors both lost more than 10 percent of their value.

Hero MotoCorp, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, UltraTech Cement, HDFC, HUL, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finance, Grasim Industries, Shree Cement, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Tata Consumer Products, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Bharti Airtel all fell more than 5 percent. Reliance Industries, BPCL, Wipro, ONGC, Tech Mahindra, Hindalco, UPL, Coal India, and Tata Steel, on the other side, climbed between 1 percent and 12 percent.
