The Weeknd, a pop icon, was recently named the winner of a big prize! The 31-year-old vocalist of Pray For Me was honored at The Black Music Action Coalition's 2021 Music in Action Awards! The Quincy Jones Humanitarian Award was awarded to both The Weeknd and popstar H.E.R. The BMAC noted in a statement to Variety that "The Weeknd and H.E.R. have both used their platforms to bring attention to racial and social injustice and promote awareness internationally."

The musician is no new to donating to humanitarian causes, having made many gifts to organizations he believes in over the last year. Following his support for the Black Lives Matter movement, the musician made another significant gift to Beirut-based charity in August. Following the Beirut bomb, he gave $300,000 to relief efforts in Lebanon. 

Weeknd contributed $1 million to Ethiopian famine assistance in April, following allegations of ethnic cleansing in the Tigray region, which resulted in thousands of fatalities and more than two million people being displaced. If you're not acquainted with the situation in Ethiopia, an internal US government report released in February concluded that people in Tigray are being forced from their homes in a war started by Ethiopia. 

On the personal front, the singer recently made headlines for his possible brewing romance with actress Angelina Jolie. The duo sparked dating rumours after the two were spotted out in LA several times.
