Kolkata: A 34-year-old man in West Bengal's Contai Sub Division attacked himself and his family members with knives, injuring them. Police said on Friday that the man claimed that he was concerned about the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Tahiruddin SK, a resident of Basantia village, was admitted to the NRS Medical College and Hospital in a seriously injured condition after attempting suicide on Thursday.

A senior police officer in East Midnapore district has said that Tahiruddin must have been mentally stressed, which led to the incident. The police officer said, "He has also committed multiple stab wounds on his own. For now, the focus is on his treatment. We will not interrogate him until the doctors give permission."

A relative of the victim has said that he was concerned about CAA and NRC. Relatives have stated, "He was not directly associated with any political party, but has recently participated in several protests by CAA and NRC." The relative continued, "He was worried. He had asked many people what would happen if these two came into force."
