An astrologer-cum-tantric was detained by Chitpur police for reportedly raping a young woman. Following an advertisement in the newspaper, the victim and her family met the accused, Abhijit Ghosh alias Jyotish Subhas and Jyotish Subhasish, in his Tala office since they were going through a difficult period.

According to the woman's complaint, the accused gained her trust by claiming that he would perform certain yagnas for her family's safety. The lady said she was transported to several locations around Birbhum, Burdwan, diamond Harbour under the pretext of performing rites during which she was required to consume a spiked liquid and resins. The woman said that after having the spiked drink. She filed the case to the police when the accused asked her to leave the city for the third time.
