Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lost to her rival and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari from the Nandigram assembly seat in the assembly elections that ended in West Bengal this year. In fact, Mamata Banerjee is contesting from the traditional seat Bhavanipur after losing the election from here. Polling for the bypoll has begun in the Bhowanipore assembly constituency of West Bengal and chief minister Mamata Banerjee's stronghold today. Meanwhile, voters in the area are slowly reaching the polling booths to exercise their franchise amid tight security arrangements and cyclonic storm Gulab.

Let me tell all of you that this by-election to Bhowanipore means a lot to Mamata Banerjee. In fact, if she loses this by-election, she will have to step down as chief minister. Keeping this in view, during the election campaign, she has already appealed to the voters of Bhowanipore that if she does not win the by-election, she will not be able to remain CM. On the other hand, BJP candidate from Bhowanipore seat Priyanka Tibrewal says, "The state government is scared now. We are expecting a fair election. Security deployment is very important. I will visit the polling stations in the area today.''

Let me tell all of you that recently BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal has alleged that "TMC MLA Madan Mitra has deliberately switched off the voting machine here at ward number 72 polling station as he wants to occupy the booth.''
