Kolkata: West Bengal State Congress Committee chief Somen Mitra has resigned from his post following the Congress party's humiliating defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. However, the party says his resignation has been rejected. The Communication and Outreach Department of the West Bengal State Congress Committee has sent out a letter announcing mitra's resignation.

The letter claims that party leaders have persuaded Somen Mitra. Pradeep Bhattacharya, Rajya Sabha MP of the Congress party from West Bengal, told the press that "The resignation of Soman Mitra has not been accepted. Since there is no person in the highest office, there is no question of accepting his resignation. "A meeting was held at Pradeep Bhattacharya's house over The resignation of Somen Mitra and it was clarified to Somen Mitra that his resignation had been rejected and hence he was rejected. The state Congress will continue as president.

West Bengal Congress Committee chief Somen Mitra had written a letter to the Congress high command offering his resignation, claiming responsibility for the defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.
