Lockdown imposed in Bengal as corona wreaks havoc

Kolkata: The spread of corona infection in the country may have slowed down, but in some areas, it is now on the rise. Many parts of the country are witnessing a surge in cases of corona infection. Lockdown has been imposed for 3 days in the Sonarpur Municipality area in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. During this period, only essential services will be exempted.

There has been a one-time increase in corona cases in Bengal since Durga Puja. On behalf of the ICMR, the Bengal government has also written a letter expressing concern over the increasing cases of the corona. In the letter, ICMR said that there has been a 25 per cent increase in corona cases in Kolkata after Durga Puja. Cases of infection have started increasing in Kolkata as well as other districts. So far 19 cantonment zones have been set up in the Sonarpur area adjoining Kolkata and the infection is spreading very fast. In view of this, a three-day lockdown has been imposed here.

According to the Health Bulletin, 806 new cases were registered in West Bengal on Tuesday and 15 patients lost their lives. Earlier, 805 cases were registered here on Monday, 989 on Sunday and 974 on Saturday. So far 15.88 lakh corona cases have been reported in the state and 19,081 people have lost their lives.
