Nationwide protests by doctors continue, more than 500 doctors resign

Kolkata: The Indian Medical Association has called for a nationwide strike on June 17 with the launch of nationwide protests for three days from June 14. The IMA has sought a law to probe the violence against doctors in hospitals.

According to sources, the organization has said that the violators should be sentenced to a minimum of seven years in jail. In Bengal, 300 doctors have resigned so far, with 175 doctors of Kolkata's SSKM hospital resigning collectively. Joint Forum spokesperson of Junior Doctors Dr. Arindam Dutta has put six conditions before CM Banerjee to call off the strike.

Earlier, the strike, which began after incidents of violence against doctors in West Bengal, received support from across the country on Friday. Doctors from Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar staged a protest. Delhi Medical Association announces day-long bandh.  In fact, on June 11 at NRS Medical College in Bengal, he was beaten up with junior doctors. Doctors have been protesting since then.
