Kolkata: Elections are still underway in several states of the country and there has been a political uproar in West Bengal over the slogan of 'Jai Shri Ram'. Election officials faced the wrath of the Election Commission for saying 'Jai Shri Ram' in eastern Burdwan city due to the sixth phase of polling on Thursday. The Election Commission removed the officer from election duty after a complaint. In West Bengal, 43 seats are going to polls in the sixth phase on Thursday.

The same incident took place at booth number 35 of Govindpur GSP Primary School, a former place in east Burdwan city. The third polling officer, Soumyajit Bhattacharya, called 'Jai Shri Ram' due to a mock poll on Thursday morning. The TMC objected to this and complained to the Election Commission. After receiving the complaint, the Election Commission removed the third polling officer.

According to BJP, Jai Shriram can speak anywhere. It is not right to play politics about it. Senior BJP leaders have often slammed Mamata Banerjee's objection to Jai Shriram in the assembly elections. On the other hand, after the incident, TMC candidate of Purvasthali South Assembly and outgoing Minister Swapan Debnath justified the action against the election officer. On the other hand, sporadic violence has been reported throughout the day due to voting, but there has been no major incident of violence.
