West Bengal: Separate Dining Hall for Muslim Students, BJP objects

Kolkata: West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee government has directed schools to reserve a separate Mid-Day Meal Hall for Muslim students. The order will be applicable to government schools in the province where 70 per cent or more Muslim students are students. The BJP has reacted sharply to the Mamata government's decision and attacked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

In an order issued by the Behar District Magistrate of West Bengal, it has sought the names of government and government aided schools where more than 70 per cent of the minority children are studying. A separate Mid-Day Meal Dining Hall for Muslim children will be set up in these government schools. It has been asked to make a proposal for the same.  The circular also said that the direction has been given by the State Minority and Madarsa Education Department.

It may be mentioned that the department is with the Chief Minister of the province Mamata Banerjee and Giasuddin Mulla is the Minister of State in the department. Meanwhile, the BJP has launched a scathing attack on the TMC government's decision. West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh tweeted, "Why is this bias being done to students on the basis of religion? Is there any ill will behind this separation? Another conspiracy?'
